Sketch by Azusa Tojo
I am a science journalist that covers climate and the environment. I also have a background in animation and design, which I love using to visualize data whenever possible. I have roots in Gainesville, Florida and Kyoto, Japan. I currently live in New York City.
I am currently a staff reporter at Grist. My work has also appeared in the New York Times, The Nation, Scientific American, Mother Jones, Wired, Atmos, and the Japan Times, among others. I have made guest appearances on Radiolab, NPR, Here & Now, The Weather Channel, PBS NewsWeekend, and LAist Morning Edition. In 2026, I won a 2026 National Edward R. Murrow award for my reporting on the defunding of American science during the second Trump administration.

Are you a scientist with interesting fieldwork coming up, or perhaps a person dealing with climate change in your own life?  Please don't hesitate to reach out, I would love to speak with you.
